Hand Editing
Why not hand edit logs?
Because log editing requires so much discernment, there has always been a school of thought that says that the editing should be done by hand. Simple hand-editing strives merely to remove obvious errors, usually by straight-line replacement of the zone: it is usually not sufficient for geophysical purposes. Complex hand-editing involves interpreting the correct curves, then guessing what the errant curve should have recorded in that case: this can work nicely, but it is too slow and expensive to be useful for larger projects.
Hand editing should never be done by non-petrophysicists, because considerable expertise in logging is required.
Hand editing should never be done by anyone with a stake in the prospect, such as the geologist or geophysicist, because there is too much chance that inconsistencies and prejudices will creep in.
